Canada’s Dirty Oil Secret
Channel 4 News 1 x 10 2019

Producer/Director

In this short documentary for Channel 4 News reporter Inigo Gilmore travels to Canada just as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government will announce whether the controversial construction of the Trans Mountain pipeline will go ahead.

The decision is putting Trudeau’s liberal values to the ultimate test, as it stands Canada will not reach its own carbon emission reduction target nor will it meet the 2030 Paris climate target. The 1,147 km pipeline would extend from northern Alberta’s tar sands right down to the west coast of British Columbia with the view to serve the Asian market.

We travel along the length of the pipeline from Alberta’s tar sands to the Pacific Coast. We meet with the many indigenous communities that live along the pipeline who are opposed or in favour of the pipeline. And we ask Trudeau how he intends to meet his Paris Agreement target if he goes ahead with this controversial project.
